About 90 minutes by plane from Tokyo! Ube City is located on the Seto Inland Sea side of Yamaguchi Prefecture, at the western tip of Honshu. It is a city known for its thriving industry. Since 1961, Ube has hosted a sculpture exhibition, recognized by Guinness World Records® as the “longest-running outdoor sculpture exhibition,” making it a true city of art. Surrounded on three sides by the sea, Yamaguchi Prefecture also offers fresh seafood, and Ube is famous for its delicious fish.

Machijuu Evangelion
Ube City is the hometown of Hideaki Anno, the general director of the Evangelion series. Inspired by the appearance of JR Ube-Shinkawa Station as one of the model settings in the series, the city launched the event Machijuu Evangelion (“ALL OVER THE UBE CITY”).
As part of the third project, a spear of Longinus measuring over 7 meters, crafted with local companies’ advanced technology, has been installed at Tokiwa Park. After sunset, visitors can enjoy the sight of the spear illuminated in red.
